So you have a new member of the family…Congratulations. Now when do you start training every one asks? And my answer never changes any madder what breed of dog you have. NOW as soon as you get home start with crate training it’s the only way to get them potty trained. Next don’t let them Rome free around the house there not ready yet. Unless you like cleaning your carpets every day and replacing your rugs drapes chair leg etc….. One of the worse trait all dog have which is a blessing and a curse all in one .Is they grow up so fast that they look full grown in size but their minds are small there not ready to be left alone yet there just not ready they will let you know when they are trust me.

Start with a name that has two syllables its easier for them to learn but they will adapt if it’s only one or four. If you don’t want them to jump on you stop careering them around let them walk put them on a leash you say they don’t like the leash WHO’S in charge here? Now I’m not saying be mean but be stern all living thing need Love Discipline and Love. It’s called tough love if you’re a push over and let everybody use you don’t get a dog. Let’s face it you’re a cat person. Don’t be ashamed their great animals too they don’t need a lot of attention, you don’t like them tearing up stuff! Just get them declawed. Problem solved. And their supposed to go in the house right in a box how cool is that.

If you just stick with the basics come , sit, stay, lay down you can have a perfect dog. You don’t need to have them advanced but if you want to you can. Your dog can become so smart it’s scary. I mean can you imagine loosing you sight relying on your safety from a dog? Or the parent not knowing when their child is going to have a life threatening seizure but a dog will let them know before it happens amazing simply amazing.

Dogs are wonderful animals they love to please so enjoy your new puppy or rescue dog but don’t give up on them you can do it. Give us a call with our help we can get through this. Remember everything you imagine your dog can become can happen… it just takes a little time and patients. Will help you get started in the right direction.

It has already been four years since I met this Brittany Spaniel, Rusty. It seems like yesterday this little Brittany was tearing up my kennels and trying to run away every chance he could after I first got him. You should have seen him. He was high strung with some serious anxiety issues. You wanted to kiss him one minute and give him away the next minute.

One hot summer day in August of 2006, I was building a barn and this strange dog ran by me like a flash. By looking at him, you would think he could not get any wilder. The poor dog was painting the whole time and he was running in the road, almost getting hit by a car several times. The only way I could get this dog to safety was to call my dog into the garage hoping this crazy dog would follow …..it worked. After he got in the garage, a different look came on his face. It was a relaxed, calm look, but outside he still was anxious and acted like a wild animal on the loose….very hyper.

I later learn that Rusty lived over two miles away. I took Rusty back to his home, but he kept showing up at my house and I kept taking him back to his owners. The owners were telling me that Rusty once climbed out of their kennel and broke his leg. That slowed him down for a month until the cast came off, then he would get out again and run away. He was sometimes gone for a couple of days at a time.

Rusty’s owners paid a lot of money for this puppy, but the owners were fed up with the dog’s behavior at this point. It is not like they did not care about the dog, they just did not know how to handle this breed of dog which can be very hyper. He has a lot of energy and needs to run often. Even after Rusty became my dog, I would let him out to run and he would usually try to take off and not want to come back…….until I trained him of course.

So many people have dogs like this who are hyper and have anxiety issues, but they just do not know what to do with them. They spend money on fences, training collars, and about everything imaginable, but what is also needed is a professional dog trainer. You say trainers might be expensive, but it is money well spent. You will get a well trained dog that you can be proud of.

This dog’s owner said that Rusty was not trainable, a terrible hunter, and would not point at a bird to save his own life. He would catch animals, chase deer, and would not come when called. I offered to buy him….after all I like a challenge. The owners did not part easily with Rusty. They really cared about him, but they knew what was best for Rusty. They cared enough about Rusty to let him go knowing I would take very good care of him. So, Rusty became a very important part of our family.

After training Rusty to hunt birds, not chase deer, work on his behavior issues, and (the most important thing) to come when called. He turned out to be one of the best hunting dogs I have trained.

You see, I needed to train Rusty to control his chaos. He only knew two speeds stop and fast. He just needed to get it under control. It took a little time and money but not any more money than any other dog or hunting dog I have trained. I learn from dogs every day. Dogs have some standard behaviors in common, but each dog has their own individual personality, just like people.

When you hear about a rescued dog, you think about a dog that has been abandoned or abused, but those are not the only things some dogs need rescuing from. Sometimes dogs need rescuing from their own bad behaviors; behaviors that can be very frustrating to their owners. In other words, those dogs need specialized training. I have learned that there are probably thousands of dogs out there every year that are just like Rusty. All they need is the right trainer. Someone who is a behaviorist and works with all breeds like an IACP trainer. I have trained over a hundred dogs a year . When I am called to train a dog who has issues to resolve, a lot of people tell me that the dog I am there to train is nothing like their previous dog, who evidently was a pretty good dog. If I had a nickel for every time someone would tell me that, I would probably have $8 a year in nickels. The point is, it happens a lot. Do not give the dog away, call someone to help with your dog’s behavior problems. You won’t regret it. It makes for a happier dog and a happier owner.

One of the most important responsibilities of owning a dog is maintaining their well being and keeping them from harm which their curiosity may lead them. For dog lovers, a dog containment system may seem a bad idea. Even though dogs should be free to play and explore their surroundings, their curiosity should be limited to places where they might get an accident. Even for a trained dog there are instances that they are provoked by their animal instinct to run across the road to chase other animals Ergo buying a dog fence that will keep you dog to a specified boundary is highly recommended.

In the past where electronic dog collars were not yet developed, most pet owners rely on traditional dog fences made of wood which is not that effective against stubborn large dogs that usually jump across the fence or even drill under the fence.

As technology continues to improve, several innovations were developed not only for the benefit of humanity but to man’s best friend as well. One of these innovations in dog care technology is electronic dog fence which comes in two types but all function as system pet containment that is safe and reliable. With so many electronic pet fences to choose from, it is wise to review which is better in keeping your dogs away from off-limit areas. The following are the two most popular modern dog containment products available in the market.

Electric Dog Fence
Electric dog fence uses a wire buried along the perimeter of the yard. When your dog starts getting near the edge of the specified boundary, a mild electric shock alerts your dog to go back. Electric dog fence is perfect for areas that have zoning laws and which prohibits the use of a traditional fence.

The downside of electric dog fence is that when stubborn large dogs eagerly chase something he likes, it is possible that the small electric charge will not be enough to deter him. Furthermore if your dog is on the other side of the fence, he might be troubled on getting inside the fence because the electric collar works regardless of what side your dog is on.

Invisible Dog Fence
On the other hand invisible dog fence is design not only to contain a particular dog to a specified boundary but to train them as well. Upon buying an invisible dog fence from a reputable pet store, a representative will come to your house to install and train your dog how to react from the sounds emitted by the dog collar. Invisible dog fence system includes a receiver collar and a transmitter which is set for a given boundary. The receiver collar is worn by your dog while the boundary can be either a buried wire or a

Humanity has come a long way from having a traditional fence made of wood, to a digital invisible/electric fence which will help contain your dog. Who knows what technology will offer next in order to properly guide your dog not only as a pet but also as part of the family.

K9 Kindergarten LLC

Washington Twp, MI, 48094

The author of the “Invisible Fence 4Less” article is right regarding electric and invisible fences. Their systems do shock the dogs as well as sounding a warning beeping tone. But there are two things that can make any invisible pet containment fence system fail:

# 1 IMPROPER TRAINING. You can’t just put the collar on your dog and expects them to figure it out on their own. Every living thing has a natural instinct to react to a threatening situation. When you are scared or hurt, you leave the area where it is happening. If we did not learn from experience, we could go the wrong way and into a life threatening situation. So, your dog’s instinct is to run through the fence, we have to reprogram their natural instinct is to run in the direction their head is pointed. We have train them to do a 180 run into the center of your property. Reprogramming is capable of being done with every invisible pet containment fence system out there such asPetsafe, Innotek, Dogtra, Dogtec,TriTronic etc. What has to be taught to your dog is that they have to know in the back of their head that the consequences of getting corrected is higher than any temptation of running through the fence. Even in the beginning training stages, if your dog runs through, freezes, or runs parallel down the fence wire, proper training by a professional dog trainer can help your dog know when and how to get out of the fence area and to the center of your property, not run through the fence.

#2 IMPROPER FITTING OF THE COLLAR. If any fence collar isn’t tight enough it will not work. If you’re not going to put your Dogs fence collar on every morning, don’t waste your money. You must form habits just like your dog forms habits. With the collar being tight on the dog’s neck, you must remove it every night so your dog doesn’t get sores from the collar rubbing on their neck. The next day you can put the collar in a different position on their neck. Be sure to put on the collar the first thing in the morning, so your dog will feel the correction if they try to challenge the fence. Believe me they will, especially male dogs. My dog checks out the fence as he walks the fence line every day when outside alone. He is not trying to run through the fence. He is just seeing if it is on and how far he can get. When he hears the tone he darts into the property. There are no burns from the collar as it works on a static charge with no Amps. Some people have said they have seen burn marks from those fence collars…. that’s horrible not true. What is bad is the owners forget to remove the collar at night and the dog develops a sore. Or worse yet is that they let the collar dangle on the dog like a necklace because they think it is too tight and it hurts the dog or they are choking. Your dog will get use to the collar being snug. Again, if it is not tight enough, it will not work. Please… you can’t tell me that a dog lost or hit by a car isn’t worse. If you are not going to use the collar correctly, don’t waste your money, keep your dog on a leash.

Now each dog has a different personality and they train differently. Some dogs train on a fence with no problems. Other dogs, if not trained properly, can start going to the bathroom in the house because the installers did not help you properly fence train the dog because they just install fences. I’m not saying you have to be a Pro trainer with the International Association of Canine Professionals or a trainer like the Dog Whisperer on T.V. But if you’re paying a company to install your system, don’t you think you would want the best possible person for the job? One who will help you properly fence train your dog? After all, your dog is family.

Professional Trainers @ K9 Kindergarten LLC

So you want to get a hunting dog but you are not sure how to train it or you do not have the time, space, equipment, etc.. The next thing you want to do is find a gun dog trainer. There are a lot of gun dog trainers out there good and bad, just like everything else. I suggest going with your gut when meeting a gun dog trainer. We are with people every day so we have a pretty good understanding on how we feel when we meet or talk to someone. So go with your gut.

In the past there has been only one way to get your dog trained by a pro. You had to send your dog away for about 4 to 6 weeks in order for your dog to be ready for the next hunting season and even then there was no guarantee. No gun dog trainer can guarantee a good gun dog. I can not and if there is a trainer out there that does they must be God. The only thing any pro trainer can guarantee is an obedient dog when you get them back period. No one can teach drive. They can teach them to find birds but not to want them, teach them to use their nose but not have a good one. Some hunters think they can get a dog to go right out of the box, as they say. But if you start to ask them questions about their good out the box gundog you soon learn that the dog isn’t a good retriever. The dog drops the live bird five feet from you and the dog has to go chase it again and again. Lets say when your dog comes out of the water and drops the live bird you winged to shake the water off their back and then have to chase after the bird again. If you have a pointer that starts to flush the birds before you get there or the flusher that runs on a rooster and you can’t stop them from running so you run to your dog with a loaded gun yikes.

That is why you need a Pro Trainer to start your dog out the right way. Most of dog problems are man-made like gun shyness the only thing that is the dogs fault is they grow up so fast that we think their ready but they’re not. Their minds are still little and this should not be rushed. Some puppies can take the pressure of gun dog training but most can not. People sometimes rush their gun dog training because they are busy and want to get the dog to a point where they can go out hunting. In this day in age with everything going on in our lives you can’t expect to train any puppy if you are tired or rushed to get done. Just because you heard from a buddy that he took his dog to the gun range or just shot his 12 guage and had no problem doesn’t mean you should. There is a fifty fifty chance that you will ruin your dog before it is ready, so why take the chance let a pro trainer help you do it right the first time.

Your hesitant from what you have learned so far about having to send your dog away for some time and that is not setting good with you or the wife and kids. Your thinking it is the only way right, wrong. I have a program available where you can train with your dog at our facility or we will pick them up, train and take them home in time for dinner and loving. We work with live birds, gun break your dog the right way, learn water work, and get them ready for the current season or next season. We work with only a few dogs at a time so they can get the attention they need. We want your dog to be the best he can be with our help. If you want to send your dog away that is fine but like I said there are a lot of great pro trainers out there, some good and some bad use your gut. When talking to a trainer make sure to ask them a few basic questions like are they insured, is there a vet nearby, do they have dogs to show you what your dog should be like when finished? How many pro trainers on the staff, the kennel boy doesn’t count. This is one of the best questions to ask because there is just so much time in the day no matter where you are. Let’s say they have 10 dogs in training and there is one pro trainer. They work at most 12 hrs a day. Lets say they use an hour with feeding and taking them for exercise. Then they have to clean the kennels, they may have help but most places do not. They need another hour or so for phone calls and lunch and other things that come up throughout the day, now they may have 8 hours left to train. That still pretty good time if they spend 15 to 20 minutes three times a day for 10 dogs. That leaves 45 min per dog giving us 10 minutes to spar as long as everything goes perfect and the dog picks up what he is trained to do.

Make sure you look for a pro trainer with adequate staff on board, rule of thumb one trainer can handle four dogs a day to get optimal training in a full day. Every dog learns at their own pace if you push them too hard you will crush them. When people ask me how long it will take I always tell them we are on the dogs time not mine or yours. If you are on a tight budget now may not be the time for you to get a gun dog to train, their are plenty of clubs you can go to and pay a guide for the day and have a great hunt. You should be able to get a ball park figure give or take a couple hundred when looking for a pro trainer. When you call these other companies out there them ask them questions, check out their proof of insurance, call the BBB. Lets face it our dogs are part of our family but they can not talk and it is your job to talk for them and make sure its a safe reputable place.

A dog has unconditional love, if you want to see for you self. Put your dog and your spouse in the trunk. Drive around for awhile, stop – open the trunk and see which one is happy to see you. OK don’t do this it will probably get you into trouble. Trust me its your dog every time.

Give us a call we are here to answer your questions. Leave a message if we are out training we will call you back when the dogs give us a break. 586-336-9447

Throw out the news papers and puppy pads; you are training them to pee in your house. Go out and get a good cage to crate train your puppy. Dogs are den animals they enjoy enclosed places they feel safe and secure. If you have kids we all start them in a crib its safer and more secure. Think of it like a crib with a lid.

Your puppy should be in their cage when you can’t watch them. Give them something to chew on that they won’t destroy like a Kong or Nyle Bone works well. Spend time with them but when you are on the phone, on the computer, watching TV, cleaning house or making dinner keep them in the crate. If you can’t watch them put them in the crate. If they go just once in the house that is all they need to fail and to start going to the bathroom in your house.

After puppies sleep, eat, or play they need to go outside and go to the bath room after they are done. Take them on a leash stand in one spot tell them to go potty then praise them when they are done. Don’t give them treats when they do a good job, they will want to go outside to eat rather than go to the bathroom. Every time you feed your puppy they have to digest their food and relieve themselves, so if you keep feeding them every time they go out 6 to 8 hours later their going to have a bowel movement.

When feeding your puppy give them time to eat 15-20 min. If they graze all day by eating a little here and there they are going to poop a little here and there. So that is why it is so important to put them on schedule. When you give them water make sure to take them out a half hour after they drink.

All puppies learn from consistancy and repetiveness. Now that can be great or disastrous. If you do it right and follow this simple schedule they will succeed but if you don’t watch them and leave them walk around the house unsupervised because you think that its cruel to keep dogs in a cage they will fail. When kids are little would you leave them in a room on the floor alone to crawl around to get into whatever they want? No we put them in a play pen or chair swing. When they still wet and poop there paints do we let them go all day without a diaper?

The biggest thing that people do and fail in training their puppy is they get impatient because their puppy gets big so fast they think they are ready. After the first year they are like 5- 6 yrs in human age. Humans are not even ready to be left alone yet at that age but they can’t be left alone in a crib while we are at work. Dogs are also still too young to be left alone but they can be left alone in a crate while we are at work. Puppies can be left alone in a crate but not all day. When their 8-10 weeks old their bladder is very small and they have to go out every two to four hours. So if you can’t get home or have someone get home to let them out. Look into getting an older dog because puppies are a lot of work in order to potty train.

When your puppy is 16 weeks old their organs are fully develop when their 4 mos old they should be 100 % house broken with no messes in the house if they have one every couple of days their not potty trained yet.

The biggest secret in potty training your puppy is first thing in the morning when you hear them get up take them outside. If they don’t go and you bring them back in the house, then they poop. What you have to do is put them back in the cage if they don’t go. When they start to whine take them back outside on a leash tell them to go potty repeat until you succeed.

If they start going in their cage it is too big that is why you need a divider in the cage. All they need is enough room to stand up and turn around. Do not lock them in your laundry room it is not a play ground. You need to make sure to walk your dog play with them do whatever you like to exert that energy. They will find trouble being locked in a room. If you’re lucky they will only poop and pee in there. Sometimes they chew their way through a wall or door or worse electrical cords. They are teething and need to chew. No matter how may toys or bones you put in there they will always chew on what you don’t want them to.

Dogs are meant to go to the bathroom outside not in a litter box. Ask someone that has their dog going on potty pads or a litter box if they ever come home and the dog has wet or pooped next to the pad or in a carpeted room you’ll find out that there dog is not house broke they just live with it. Are you going to?

A transmitter is located in your garage, basement and sends the electric dog fence signal through the wire concealed around the edge of your property. The wire sends a signal to a receiver worn on your dog’s collar. The dog fence transmitter features advanced technology that includes visual and audio alarms to warn you if there’s a problem. The underground dog fences are the safest electric fence for dogs on the market today. Your dog needs to understand the boundaries of your yard. There natural reaction is to run in the direction that there head is pointed and that is outside of your yard. You need to reprogram there instinct’s make them turn back into the yard not run through freeze or run parallel with the wire. Most dogs train fine with a small shock from the collar but some are more stubborn than others and need more of a correction and some need a lot less correction. Our goal is to have them remember in the back of their head that the correction is higher than any temptation so when they are off leash they will make the correct decision.

That’s where K9 Kindergarten can help we can install or just train your dog on a system you or someone else installed. We have IACP Pro Trainers on staff. 2 of only 8 in the area. What is an IACP trainer? If you ever watch The Dog Whisper he recommends that you call an IACP Pro Trainer to help you with your needs. We work with all breeds have National K9 Certified Graduates licensed and accreted by the BBB. Gives us a call and find out how affordable it can be to get your pet’s to stay in the yard. 586-336-9447 office

You can create off limits areas with a electronic dog fence, such as a pool, landscaped sections of your yard or a garden area. You can use your dog fence to separate your front yard from your back yard. You can then choose which area of your dog fence to allow your dog into. If you’re pet is inadvertently let out the front door he will be safely contained in your yard.

Installation is easy. The wire boundary of your dog fence can be installed in virtually any configuration for your yard. The wire for your dog fence can be installed underground or above ground with the use of Sod Staples. You choose the installation for you electronic dog fence that is best for you and your pet.

The Dog Fence makes it easy to train your pet. By spending just 10 minutes a day working with your pet, he can be fully trained in a few weeks. You can train as many dogs as you want on the same system, as long as they are each wearing a receiver collar. Additional receivers are available if you have more than one dog. A Dog Fence offers the flexibility you need to solve your installation needs. Bury the boundary wire underground approximately 1-3 inches deep. Using your own design, you can protect your flower and seedbeds, shrubs, trees and even swimming pools.
